Data Engineer

ShopAdvisor, Inc. is looking for a Data Engineer to help manage the big data pipelines that power our web services platform. If you’re a data jockey with the desire to work on complex, cloud-based data systems using the latest technologies, then you might be a good fit for our growing team. We need a passionate individual to help us scale our data intake systems, refine our analytics and reporting capabilities, and better automate our data pipelines. This individual will be utilizing Kinesis, Redshift, Cassandra, Aurora, Redis, and more to process shopper profiles, aggregate inventory data, and provide critical business intelligence reports.

We work with brands and retailers to power innovative mobile proximity campaigns. In this position, you’ll work with a strong, collaborative team, led by Jeff Papows, former CEO of Lotus, and backed by a board loaded with industry experts. ShopAdvisor recently acquired Retailigence, dramatically increasing our market share and opening up new opportunities for rapid company growth.

You’ll be working in an open-concept office at a restored mill building offering a fun and friendly environment with flexible work hours and unlimited snacks. We’re an energetic and ambitious team, but we like to balance out all our hard work with team lunches, the occasional drink (or two) and tangential conversations about movies, food, music and sports. Responsibilities / What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Manage daily data intake and transformation processes from third-party sources
  • Participate in technical design, development, implementation and support of new data intake systems and processes
  • Manage nightly ETL tasks for analytics reporting, user profile aggregations, etc.
  • Automate data tasks and processes
  • Oversee data quality standards and data verification processes
  • Provide analytics reports and other data visualizations for customers, sales, and management
  • Provide oversight during implementations into production and monitor operating efficiency of existing data systems
  • Troubleshoot and correct production issues in emergency type situations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields
  • Strong relational and NoSQL databases skills (MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Experience with BI and/or reporting tools such as Periscope Data, Tableau, etc.
  • Development experience with multiple programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Python, Bash, JavaScript, PHP, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Amazon Web Services experience with data products including S3, DynamoDB, RedShift, Kinesis, Aurora, etc.
  • Knowledge of caching and search technologies such as Redis, ElasticSearch, etc.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, probability, and machine learning
  • Understanding of product identifiers (UPC, EAN, GTIN, etc)

  • Participate in technical design, development and implementation of application services
  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs
  • Design and code programs, create test transactions and run software tests
  • Publish and manage 3rd party APIs and integrations
  • Review requirements, design and implementation plans, and ensure that design and development is aligned with standards
  • Provide oversight during implementations into production and monitor operating efficiency of existing application systems
  • Troubleshoot and correct production issues in emergency type situations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Related Fields
  • Development experience with multiple programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, PHP, etc.)

  • Build environments: Maven, Git, Shell scripting

  • Knowledge of Redis, ElasticSearch, Zlib/ZIP compression
  • Understanding of product identifiers (UPC, EAN, GTIN, etc)

General Responsibilities

This position requires the ability to successfully prospect for new sales opportunities targeting agencies and brands. The successful candidate will have a background in selling marketing/advertising solutions and should be able to use consultative selling skills to clearly understand customers’ marketing requirements and recommend the ShopAdvisor approach that will meet and exceed their ad campaign proximity goals. Collaborative team selling experience desirable.

Main Job Tasks

  • Proactively initiate new business development opportunities to increase market share within your defined territory, while meeting pre-defined goals and objectives;
  • Achieve quarterly and annual bookings and revenue objectives;
  • Cold call, develop and manage pipeline, create and manage qualified opportunities and close business;
  • Effectively communicate with marketing and agency executives, and have a full understanding of proximity marketing and the ShopAdvisor value proposition;
  • Identifies and creates business needs with senior executive decision makers;
  • Creates and communicates the value of ShopAdvisor marketing solution with prospects;
  • Builds relationships at all levels within prospect organizations;
  • Develops individual account strategies to effectively penetrate accounts;
  • Ongoing and reliable weekly, monthly and quarterly pipeline and forecast management;
  • Work in partnership with the ShopAdvisor sales and marketing teams

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of relevant experience selling SaaS marketing, data and media campaign solutions, preferably exposure to proximity marketing;
  • Proven sales track record selling marketing services, prospecting and closing skills;
  • Experience selling into and working with agencies and brands;
  • Demonstrating our offering and defining and build presentations to meet prospect requirements;
  • Excellent communications (verbal, written and presentation) skills;
  • Consistently meet and exceed quarterly and annual quotas;
  • Someone we can trust to represent ShopAdvisor to the outside world;
